Thiksay village to come up with garbage management project

To manage garbage scientifically, Thiksay Culture and Welfare Society in collaboration with Senior Experten Service (SES) Germany and Lions Club Leh with the support of Hill Council, Leh is planning to launch a Resource Project in Thiksay.

A meeting in this regard was held with Gyal P Wangyal, CEC on August 30 at Council Secretariat.

Members of Thiksay Culture and Welfare Society including Tashi Tundup, Retired CPO Leh, Dr. Tashi Motup, Surgeon Specialist, Tundup Spalzang, Former Councillor Thiksey constituency, Tundup Gyatso, Councillor, Sarpanches and Numbarders of Thiksay, Shey, Nang and Rambirpur were present.

The members informed about the awareness drive organised in Thiksay block from August 20 to 23 under 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' by the villages of Thiksay, Shey, Nang and Rambirpur. 

They shared their detail plan with Hill Council, Leh for launching of a Resource Project in Thiksay block for garbage management in line with German technology. 

They said that people of Thiksay area are keen to support this project as Thiskay area being a famous tourist center bisected by Manali national highway is experiencing garbage problem for many years. Further, they informed that Thiksay Monastery with the blessing and support of Thiksay Rinpoche is ready to give monastery land for this Resource Project. 

The delegation requested Council support in launching of this dream project at Thiksay.

Gyal P. Wangyal highly appreciated the concern and voluntary spirit of Thiksay people in keeping their area neat and clean and coming up with a garbage management project for their area on their own. 

Talking about the successful implementation of project Tsang-da at Choglamsar and few other places of Leh district, he assured to extend project Tsang-da in Thiksay area also.
