Sulekha Kumbhare reviews welfare schemes and programmes for minorities in Leh

A review meeting was chaired by Sulekha Kumbhare, Member National Commission for Minorities with all the community members of Leh district and district administration on August 21. 

In the meeting, she reviewed the ongoing welfare schemes and programmes for minorities being implemented under Prime Minister’s 15 Point programmes for the welfare of minorities in Leh district. 

She further took a detailed review of all the social welfare schemes being implemented in the district for the socio-economic uplift of minorities and tribal population.

The schemes included ICDS, scholarship and education loans for students under various schemes, Housing schemes under Indira Awas Yojna (IAY),  medical care facilities, skill training programmes, women empowerment programmes.  She directed DC, Leh and all the concerned officers to expedite all the schemes with letter and spirit.

She directed all the HODs to give detail progress report of all the schemes and programmes in written by 22 August, highlighting problems, issues, and recommendations needed for smooth implementation of schemes in the district. 

She directed concerned HODs to organize awareness camps in the entire district and print leaflets highlighting Prime Minister’s 15 Point programmes in English, Hindi, Urdu and Ladakhi Bhoti languages and circulate these leaflets in all the schools and community centers at large scale. 

Avny Lavasa, Deputy Commissioner, Leh apprised  Sulekha about the tribal sub-plan funds which is the major source for supplementing district plan funds, but since 2015 no funds were given under tribal sub-plan in the district due to which the number of projects are incomplete. 

All the heads of the community demanded State Minority Commission Office in the J&K State so that all the problems and issues of the minority could be raised easily. 
Supported by all the community, P.T Kunzang, Vice President LBA strongly demanded inclusion of Bhoti language in the 8th schedule.  

Ashraf Ali Barcha, President Anjuman Imamiya requested district administration to provide a list of beneficiaries covered under various welfare schemes to all the community heads for assessment at their own levels. 

Dechen Chamgha, President Christian Community advocated for conducted awareness camps for Ladakhi students in Delhi, Chandigarh, and Jammu and also raised the connectivity problem especially poor internet facility in the entire district due to which people are unable to avail various government schemes. 
 
Sulekha assured to take the demand for inclusion of Bhoti language in the 8th schedule with the Minority Commission at Delhi strongly. She also assured to take the issues like relaxation in the age and qualification or availing various loan schemes for Leh district with the commission.

She directed DC, Leh to give a detail report about the sanctioned and vacant posts of MBBS doctors in the district.
