Science Expo lets students showcase hands-on projects at DIET

With an aim at developing skill, knowledge and temperament towards science a day-long Science Exhibition and Idea Competition under Rashtriya Madkyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) was organized by DIET, Leh ON 24 March in their premise. 

More than 400 students of around 80 schools, 77 government schools from all parts of the district excluding Nubra and Durbuk and 3 private schools affiliated to J&K Board of Secondary Education from Leh participated in the exhibition.
 
Deputy Commissioner Leh Saugat Biswas was the chief guest of the occasion.
Biswas appreciating all the models prepared by the students studying in far-flung areas of Ladakh and in difficult conditions termed their effort as enthusiastic. Despite many distractions especially for students DC Leh said that the participation itself in a science exhibition is a great step and it is the duty of the teachers to help foster scientific temperament among students. 

DC Leh also encouraged for conducting more such science related works which will encourage students to participate at platforms out of Ladakh. Biswas appreciated Principal Konchok Angmo and staff of DIET Leh for organizing such an important science exhibition. 
   
The students gave presentation on innovative science models made on various themes like ethnic food of Ladakh; causes, consequences and solution of climate change; biodiversity; optimum utilization of hot springs in Ladakh; artificial glacier; solution for sanitation problems and water crisis; alternative sources of energy (Green energy) .

The Judges for the exhibition were Dr. Tsering Stobdan, Dr. Dorjey Angchuk scientists, DIHAR Leh; Ishey Namgyal Sr. Lecturer (DIET) Leh, Rinchen Namgyal Lecturer (DIET) Leh. 

The top-5 schools in High Category was bagged by Government High School Achinathang, Chuchot-Yokma, Chumathang, Housing Colony and Shara while Govt M/S Shang, Lehdo, Khachey-thang, Domkhar Barma and Chemdey as top five schools in middle category and prizes were given away by Dr Tsering Stobdan, Dr. Dorjey Angchuk and Principal DIET Leh Konchok Angmo.

Dr Tsering Stobdan expressed his happiness on the new and innovative ideas used for the exhibition and encouraged the students to work towards such ideas in the future too.

Earlier, on-spot quiz competition was also organised by the Snow Leopard Conservancy where they distributed prizes for winners of the competition.
Deputy Chief Education Officer and other officers of education department were also present on the occasion.

In the end vote of thanks was delivered by Principal DIET Leh Konchok Angmo.
