LEH :
The survival of LAHDC looks grim when other bodies like municipal come into play which may conflict the power and the Hill Council might get undermine. This was stated by Tashi Gyalson, District president, PDP Leh during a press conference on September 18 at Press Club Office.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Leh elaborated the crisis which can be faced after the Municipal election in Leh.

Tashi Gyalson, and Advocate Mohammad Nasir, nominated councilor said that the institution LAHDC was given to us after a long struggle in the year 1995.  The council has been provided with enormous powers that include budget formulation, development planning and power to collect taxes and fees of various kinds. When other bodies like municipal come into play, the hill council might get undermined also there can be a conflict of powers.

“We are blessed that we have an institution like LAHDC which have their own tiny constituencies and it has given a boost to whole Ladakh besides having MLA and MP which facilitate each other. But creating another level of representation will only get a clash of interest because their nature of the job is the same”.

Ever since the Hill Council has been incepted, the town area has well progressed said Tashi Gyalson.  They emphasised on strengthening and empowering it.

He said, “We must unite and discuss the issue immediately. All the political parties and stakeholders should come together on a single platform and do a healthy discussion to protect our region.”

Tashi appealed the Governor to review and take decision in the interest of Jammu and Kashmir.

Rinchen Lhamo Councilor, Sangay Dorjey, Senior Member and Liyakat Ali, Youth President also attended the press conference.
