Over 1000 saplings planted in Stok

Commemorating the 19th Gyalsras Bakula Rinpoche, a tree plantation was carried out on the 12 kanals of land within the premises of the hermitage of Lha-ten Gyalpo on  May 4 in Stok.

His Eminence Urgyan Rinpoche, chief guest briefed about the value of planting trees in the Buddhism perspective and in the modern scientific world. 

His Eminence emphasized upon people to imbibe clean heart and to take part in good activities.  

Around one thousand trees were planted by the people of Stok village. The aim of the drive was to combat climate change and spreading awareness about the importance of community role in developing asset for sustainable development.

Jamyang Tsering Namgyal said, “The plantation drive in Stok is an initiative to develop a community asset along with environmental protection. In our society, we have a practice of collecting amount from everyone for organizing various events at the community level. The need for change in this system is felt, and the people decided to plant trees in the barren land of the village”.

“This initiative is taken for a better future and is supported by the Forest department and Hill Council, Leh," he added.

Tsering Nurboo, a villager said, “With growing environmental issues along with development at all levels, tree plantation is becoming very important.  The whole village steps towards ensuring a better future for the new generation and to inspire different other villages of the region to plant more trees.”

Gyal P Wangyal, EC Forest, Mohammad Abbas, DFO, Tsering Angdus, Former Councillor, Lobzang Sonam, Nambardar also spoke on the occasion.
