More than 500 People started Operation Chuka Lhyakhmo This Movement which will end with a clean environment; Prasanna Ramasawami, DC Kargil

Deputy Commissioner Kargil S. Prassana Ramaswami inaugurated the First Phase of Operation Chuka Lhyakhmo (Clean River) during an impressive function organized at Syed Mehdi Memorial Hall Kargil by District Police Kargil in collaboration with District Administration on 12 April.

On this occasion SSP Kargil Dr. Shalindra Kumar Mishra and DFO Kargil were also present along with district officers, volunteers and police personals.

An impressive skit was presented on the theme Cleanliness of the society and Suru River by Ranthak Theater Group.

Briefing about the project, SSP Kargil Dr. Shalindra Mishra said that Operation Chuka Lhyakhmo, is an initiative of District Police Kargil in collaboration with District Administration aiming to clean river Suru and create awareness among people about the importance and relevance of a neat and clean Suru river.

He appreciated the overwhelming response of the public towards this project and the volunteers of Islamia School Kargil, IKMT Kargil, BJYM, Merchant Association, Taxi Union, Youth Federation Kargil, SEMOK, NCC and all departments of Kargil. He further added that the project will run for three months i.e April, May and June and in the ending of June it will conclude its First phase with a Suru Festival depicting the tradition and cultural ethos of Kargil.

Talking on this occasion DC Kargil Prassana Ramaswami said that this is a movement which is initiated by the Police Kargil but all the society has to come forward for making this initiative a successful movement. He said that the main objective of the project is to conserve the unique biodiversity of Kargil and in future, administration will arrange prefabricated toilet facilities and will take steps for proper waste management.

Prior to all these, the administration are focusing on improving and renovating the existing toilet facilities in the town.

Later after the function the volunteers along with district officers even DC and SSP Kargil cleaned a pre-indentified 1 km stretch along the Suru River bank which was supported by hundreds of people despite working season and Sunday.
