Merchant Association Kargil demands to prohibit parking near shops

Kargil district faces a shortage of essential commodities as the business establishments remained closed for three days on 13th March. The shutdown was called by Merchant Association Kargil on the issue of lack of parking facilities. 

All the Business establishments in Kargil, including those in Poyen, Balti Bazar and Baroo remained closed affecting the daily life of the people.

Islamia School Kargil, IKMT, Taxi Union, Congress Party and others extended their support for the cause of the Merchant Association.
General Secretary Merchant Association, Kargil, Mohammad Yaseen said that the parking facility near the shops has affected their business and is bearing a huge loses. He said the demand is to prohibit the parking near the shops.  

He further added that the lack of footpath on the 15 feet road in the market creates lots of difficulties and troublesome for the customer.

On asking about their consent during the first phase of making parking in town, Yaseen told that they had only asked to allow customers to stop the vehicles in town for 10 to 30 minutes which has now became a problem.

He further added that now the government is going for tendering the parking places which will become a problem for them on a legal basis.

The association has approached Deputy Commissioner Kargil and CEC both in this matter and decided to call for a strike until the demands get fulfilled. 

Chief Executive Councillor- LAHDC, Kargil- Haji Hanifa Jan said that a meeting on this matter has been called with the Merchant Association on Monday.
 
According to a press release of the District Congress Committee Kargil, a letter has been written to the Deputy Commissioner Kargil suggesting the Parking place to shift from the Main Market to somewhere else, till then as an option they suggested for implementing Odd-Even Formula until a permanent solution is found. They also requested to reconsider the floating of tenders regarding allocation of parking space to private contractors in the market. 

They also suggested for proper regulation and, monitoring for parking space at Hussaini Park to maximize space and accommodation of vehicles there.
