Mega legal service awareness camp in Leh

With an aim to empower the marginalized section of the society through legal service and to achieve the objective of social justice for all, Mega Legal services and awareness camp was organised on June 23 at Polo ground Leh.

Various government schemes available for the people were also highlighted.

The day was organised by District Legal Service Authority, Leh in collaboration with LAHDC, Leh and District Administration, Leh under the guidance of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), J&K High Court Legal Services Committee and J&K State Legal Services Authority. 

A total of 20 stalls by different departments of Leh district were installed and rendered services to aware people about schemes and facilities.

The chief guest Ranjan Gogoi, the Senior-most Judge of Supreme Court of India and Executive Chairman National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) inaugurated the camp and inspected the installed stalls. 

Highlighting the aims and objective of this camp, Sunit Gupta, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Leh said, “Justice for someone is not only confined within the premises of court but can be provided outside the court. There are various schemes and facilities formulated for the marginalized people in a different department which many people couldn’t able to avail it. So the main objective of this camp is to bring all these schemes at one platform and create awareness among the public.”

Briefing about child rights, Javed Baigh, State Coordinator, Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Welfare Society, said, “It is the responsibility of all of us to voice against the violence of children, such as child labour, child trafficking, child marriage and many more. We are working to curb these issues. The right of children is love, enjoy their childhood life, good education and best nutrition”.

He requested people to voluntarily take the responsibility to work for the child right. “If we see someone making children work or the child is facing a problem we can bring that issue into the notice of district administration through which we can extend our help,” he added.

He further said, “We have started scholarship schemes for the child who is in need by providing education.”

Alok Agarwal, Member Secretary, National Legal Service Authority, “Since Legal service authority is meant to spread awareness about legal rights among the people, the camp is organised to spread awareness about the benefits  and to guide the interested candidates, genuine people in availing the benefits.”

A total of 115 beneficiaries were aided and benefitted with wheelchairs, walking sticks, crutches, hearing aid, financial assistance for education and chronic diseases, loan sanctioned certificates and cheques, free LPG gas connection through various government-sponsored schemes of the departments.
