Meeting held to discuss mobile connectivity, USOF project

To discuss mobile connectivity issues and Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) projects in Leh district, a meeting was chaired by Gyal P. Wangyal, Chief Executive Councilor Leh along with all the councillors at Council Secretariat Leh on October 15.

Gyal P. Wangyal informed that 24 towers under USOF are sanctioned for Leh district by DOT and ready for tendering procedure. Another list of mobile towers for the left out villages has been decided as per as the census of revenue villages verified by concerned councillors on priority wise with Government of India for USOF. 

He also took a detailed analysis about the future plans of BSNL, Airtel and Jio in Leh district and made it clear once again that no tower should be erected in any village without the consent of concerned area Councillor to ensure maximum network coverage of the area. 

Discussion about the relocation of existing towers to cover more area under mobile network, streamlining of temporarily installed towers, improvement of internet facilities in the city area, awareness among telecom consumers and other stakeholders about the facts of tower radiation and others. 

Tsering Sandup, Dy. Chairman; Konchok Stanzin, Executive Councillor for Education; Mumtaz Hussain, Executive Councillor for Minority; Punchok Dorjey, General Manager BSNL Ladakh and managers and engineers from BSNL, Airtel and Jio were present.
