Lt Governor inspects 12 MW solar power project at Phey Reaffirms commitment to renewable energy, sustainable development, and green infrastructure

Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, conducted an on-site inspection of the 12 MW Solar Power Project at Phey, Leh, on October 21. The landmark initiative, being developed by the Ladakh Power Development Department (LPDD), represents a major step forward in the Union Territory’s mission to harness renewable energy and promote sustainable development.

During the visit, the Lt Governor reviewed the technical, operational, and logistical progress of the project. He was accompanied by Secretary, PDD, Rudra Goud PT, IAS; Chief Engineer, PDD, Tsewang Paljor; Superintending Engineer, PDD; and senior officials from LPDD, SECI, and the EPC contractors.

The project is being implemented under the guidance of the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI), which serves as the Project Management Consultant. The Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) work is being jointly undertaken by Ecoteq Green Energies Foundation and Oneindig Technologies Limited.

Commending the LPDD and its partner organisations for their commitment to advancing clean energy initiatives, the Lt Governor highlighted the project’s significance in ensuring long-term energy security for Ladakh.

 “Harnessing solar power is not only a step toward environmental sustainability but also a crucial element in securing Ladakh’s energy future,” said Shri Kavinder Gupta.

He emphasised the need to uphold the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency in the execution of the project and urged all stakeholders to work in close coordination to ensure timely completion and optimal performance.

The 12 MW Solar Power Project at Phey aligns with the Union Territory Administration’s broader vision of promoting green infrastructure, reducing carbon emissions, and building a sustainable energy ecosystem in Ladakh. The initiative underscores Ladakh’s unwavering commitment to adopting innovative and eco-friendly energy solutions that balance development with ecological preservation.
