LG Kavinder pays homage to Police Martyrs on Police Commemoration Day
Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, paid homage to the brave police personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, during the observance of Police Commemoration Day at the Parade Ground, District Police Lines, Choglamsar, on October 21.
The day honours the valiant sacrifice of ten CRPF personnel who were martyred on October 21, 1959, at Hot Springs in Ladakh, during an encounter with the Chinese Army. The Lt Governor laid wreaths at the Police Memorial and led the gathering in paying solemn tributes to the martyrs.
The event was attended by Director General of Police, Ladakh, Dr. S.D. Singh Jamwal, IPS; senior officers of the Administration; Deputy Commissioner, Leh; SSP Leh; Heads of Departments; officers from paramilitary forces; and district police personnel.
In his address, the Lt Governor saluted the courage, dedication, and selfless service of the police personnel who laid down their lives to uphold peace, law, and order. He made special mention of Inspector Tsewang Namgyal of Ladakh Police, who lost his life in the line of duty last year.
“The police force is not only the protector of law and order but also a pillar of nation-building. The nation remains forever indebted to our brave police personnel for their supreme sacrifice,” said Kavinder Gupta.
He lauded the Ladakh Police for their professionalism, discipline, and commitment to maintaining public safety and harmony in the region’s challenging terrain. The Lt Governor also interacted with the families of the martyrs, expressing profound gratitude for their sacrifices and assuring them of the Administration’s continued support.
Kavinder Gupta praised the Ladakh Police, under the leadership of Dr. S.D. Singh Jamwal, IPS, for their unwavering dedication to public service. He urged the youth of Ladakh to draw inspiration from the valour and patriotism of police personnel and to contribute to nation-building with the same spirit of service.
In his address, DGP Ladakh, Dr. S.D. Singh Jamwal, IPS, paid homage to the martyrs and reaffirmed the Ladakh Police’s steadfast commitment to the people. He also read out the names of police personnel who were martyred in the past year, including Inspector Tsewang Namgyal.
The Ladakh Police also remembered the sacrifices of Sub Inspector Stanzin Norboo, Assistant Sub Inspector Sonam Dorjay, Constable Gulam Abbas, Constable Shabbir Hussain, Constable Zulfiqar Ali, and Constable Mohd Raza, who were martyred in the line of duty in previous years.
