LAHDC Kargil, LEDeG join hands to improve waste management practices
CEC of LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd. Jaffer Akhoon, convened a meeting with representatives of the Ladakh Ecological Development Group (LEDeG) on December 12 to discuss collaborative ecological initiatives and a proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which is expected to be formally signed in the near future.
During the meeting, LEDeG presented the key components of its Waste Flow Diagram (WFD) methodology. The presentation covered aspects such as sample selection, household waste-generation assessment, segregation of wet and dry waste, safety and hygiene parameters, and overall analysis techniques.
Dr. Akhoon appreciated LEDeG’s continued contribution to environmental protection and acknowledged the organization’s commitment to improving ecologicaal standards in Kargil. He emphasized the importance of cooperation, coordination, and a result-oriented approach as both sides work towards finalizing the MoU.
The CEC also e-launched the upcoming book titled “Waste Flow Diagram”, aimed at supporting local bodies in enhancing waste-management efficiency. He assured full support for initiatives that promote sustainable development and improved waste-management practices, particularly in urban areas.
The meeting was attended by Executive Councillor Kacho Mohammad Feroz, Executive Councillor Er. Ponchuk Tashi, Councillor Town Haji Abass, Councillor Poyen Mohd. Amin, Councillor Baroo Adv. Khadim Hussain, the Executive Engineer (Mechanical), senior members of LEDeG, and officials from the Municipal Committee Kargil.
