KVK, Nyoma, conducts awareness programme on hygienic production of meat and integrated farming

Awareness programmes on ‘Hygienic production of meat and meat products’ and  ‘Integrated farming system’ was convened by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nyoma, SKUAST-K on June 27 and 28 in Tsaga and Hanley villages of Changthang region.

While giving awareness on ‘Hygienic production of meat and meat products’ in Tsaga, Anwar Hussain, Scientist, Food Technology said that protein from the animal source is the complete one with all the essential amino acids important for human body growth. 

He stressed upon maintaining hygiene during the production of meat and meat products as people of Changthang region rely on meat from goats, sheep and yak during the harsh winter. He also briefed about the production technology of canned meat/meat pickle so that the nutritional attributes, as well as the freshness of the procured meat, can be maintained as compared to the traditional method of meat preservation i.e. drying.

Dr. H.L. Verma, Scientist, Agricultural Extension while speaking about the integrated farming system at Hanley said that farmers should go for possible integrated farming systems like crop production-animal rearing, vegetable cultivation-animal rearing, fodder production-animal rearing, animal rearing-manure or compost production, preservation of medicinal and aromatic plants in order to meet the self-requirements, crop security as well as income generation. 

He informed that vermi-composting could be a possible venture which is under trial and mushroom cultivation will be evaluated by the centre in the coming days.
 
A team of scientists visited different villages of Nyoma block to check the status of vegetables grown in low tunnels and polyhouses from June 27 to 29. The team comprised of Dr. Kunzes Angmo, Dr. Sonam Spaldon, Dr. H.L. Verma and Jigmet Laskit.
