KVK Kargil organises awareness programme on water conservation

A mela cum method demonstration on water conservation under Jal Shakti Abhiyan was organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kargil on September 15.

The speakers highlighted the importance of water conservation, rain, and snow water harvesting, renovation of traditional and other water bodies, reuse, bore well recharge structures, watershed development and intensive afforestation and other water conservation measures for better agricultural production.
 
Feroz Ahmed Khan, CEC, Kargil underlined the importance of Jal Shakti Abhiyan as a major initiative of the Government of India for increasing groundwater level. He stressed on participants to contribute their bit in making judicious use of water.
 
He said that apart from other water conservation measures drip irrigation could also help a great deal in the optimum utilization of water for agricultural purposes. 
 
Also, he stressed farmers to maintain a healthy balance between the traditional and modern technologies to enhance farm output.
 
S F Hamid, Assistant Secretary Jal Shakti Abhiyan Ayushi Sudan stressed on to understand the importance of water as a vital resource and work towards making its judicious use for sustainable agriculture.
 
Several other programmes including quiz competition, an inspection of stalls of agricultural and horticulture products and field visit were conducted.
