Kargil to emerge as a new tourism destination: Haji Hanifa Jan

In the recent Outbound Travel Mart Mumbai 2016 LAHDC Kargil won the New Promising Destination of the year Award under the theme 'Kargil, the Unexplored Ladakh'.

The tourism promotional event became a huge success and was promoted in three major cities of the country reaching to millions of people all over the world.

Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC Kargil Haji Hanifa Jan has appreciated the team of LAHDC for the promotion of Tourism for getting award, which includes Headquarter Assistant Shabir Hussain and Ghulam Rasool Lal of Tourism Department.

Haji Hanifa Jan said that his main focus is to promote and develop Kargil on the pattern of other district in the country for which tourism is the main key.

Haji Hanifa Jan also told that his visit to Jammu, Delhi and other Cities of India was a great success during which he along with his team met with Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, NN Vohra the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Union Minister of Finance, Minister of Defence, Minister of Road Transport and Highways and other central departmental heads and raised issues of the district to get financial and administrative support in each case.

He told that the issues include, opening of Kargil-Skardu road, Inclusion of Kargil town under AMRUT, establishment of separate Kargil Scouts in Indian Army, Special financial package for Kargil and operation of civil airlines for Kargil were discussed with  Prime Minister of India. The vacation of Kurbathang Plateau from Army, due share for the youth of Kargil in army recruitment drives and smooth operation of Airforce Aircraft to Kargil was intensively taken with the Minister of Defence. 

The sanction of the special financial package for Kargil for completion of work for construction of 200 bedded hospitals, International Standard Ice Hockey Rink, Multipurpose Indoor Stadium, Council Secretariat and providing of additional funds for the restoration of infrastructure due to floods were taken up with the Minister of Finance. 

Exemption of Kargil district from the implementation of National Food Security Act, maintaining of existing scale of quota in the case of the implementation of the Act and sanction of the additional fund for clearance of work is done liabilities were taken up with the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.

He further nformed that LAHDC has expressed their resentment over the cancellation of the contract and LoA for the construction of Zojila Tunnel and has written to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India for reconsideration of the case respecting the sentiments of the people of Ladakh especially the people of Kargil.

Talking about ECO Tourism Haji Hanifa told that LAHDC is focused on the issue to abrupt increase in tourism in the near future and to address the problems arise from tourism, he will soon come up with a plan of introducing ECO Tourism for which he has discussed the issue with world renowned Environmentalist Dr. Sonam Wangchuk of SECMOL and will be making Kargil an eco-friendly tourist destination.

He directed the public representatives to assess the public related issues at ground level and raise the same at LAHDC for taking immediate and organized remedial measures. He also asked for the dissemination of people-friendly steps taken by the LAHDC for welfare and prosperity of the populace of the district.
