Hill Council, Leh, welcomes IGP, Ladakh, S.S Khandare, at Council Secretariat

Hill Council, Leh hosted a tea party to welcome S.S Khandare, the first Inspector General of Police, Ladakh on November 8 at Council Secretariat. 

Gyal.P Wangyal, CEC Leh welcomed S.S Khandare on behalf of the Hill Council, Leh with traditional Khataks and briefed him about the structure and functions of Hill Council, Leh. 

He also apprised S.S Khandare about the police-related pending issues and demands of Leh district including nonexistence of traffic police wing which is affecting traffic problems in the city badly especially in tourist season, increase in road accidents, up-gradation of Police Check posts to Police Stations, opening of new police station and checks posts in the district, early transfer of remaining police personals from UT J&K to UT Ladakh and provisions of Protective Service Officers to Deputy Chairman and ECs of LAHDC, Leh etc. 

S.S Khandare, IGP Ladakh congratulated Ladakhi people for stepping into UT Ladakh and added that new Ladakh will witness speedy progress in every spare of life as decision-making process will be fast in the new setup with more resources. 

He said that the first priority will be to improve the traffic system in the Leh city for which they are already devising a comprehensive plan adding that a post of SP, Traffic and other required officers will be created soon.

"To manage the traffic issues in Leh, police will need required infrastructure support from LAHDC, Leh without which police alone can’t manage traffic problems", said Khandare.

IGP also apprised meeting about the plans of Ladakh Police to introduce Tourist Police in UT Ladakh with proper training and these tourists’ friendly police personal will be deployed at famous tourist destination to facilitate tourists.    

Regarding the transfer of all the Ladakhi police personal from UT J&K to UT Ladakh, IGP Khandare said transfer process has already started and informed that UT Ladakh still needs additional police in thousands for which recruitment process will be devised in coming months.  

He assured systematic and effective policing in UT Ladakh and to start its different offices including IGP Office, Traffic Wing Office, CID Office, new police stations and training centres for police, Khandare requested LAHDC, Leh to allot required land for construction of these important establishments at the earliest.

Regarding the opening of new police stations and check posts, Khandare asked LAHDC, Leh, to forward their proposals and assured to move these proposals after examination for approval and regarding providing of PSOs to Deputy Chairman and ECs of Hill Council Leh. He further said that a meeting of the security review committee will sit soon to decide on the matter.
