Hill Council, Leh, ensures necessary arrangements ahead of Losar festival

In view of approaching Losar (New Year) celebration, Gyal P Wangyal, CEC, Hill Council, Leh took stock of the necessary arrangements on December 17.

All the stakeholders including Ladakh Buddhist Association, Merchant Association and Head of the departments were present during the meeting.

Gyal P Wangyal sought detail information regarding power supply, stocking and availability of essential commodities, availability of Juniper (Shukpa), maintenance of law and order and drinking water facilities.

He directed Chief Engineer, NHPC, Executive Engineer, PDD and Engineers of PGCL to ensure uninterrupted power supply especially during important days of Losar celebration like Galdan Namchot, Namgang, Tsespa chik and Tsespa soom. He urged them to ensure close coordination among themselves to ensure smooth power supply during winter months.

Executive Engineer, PDD was directed to keep one DG Set standby at Chowkhang Vihara on 27th December and to ensure eight-hour power supply in the evening and 5 to 7-hour power supply in the morning in other villages which are depended on DG Sets. The department was also asked to illuminate important buildings during Losar festival.

Enquiring about the availability of essential commodities including onion, butter, oil, sugar, Kerosene oil, vegetables, mutton, eggs etc, Gyal P Wangyal directed Deputy Chairman Hill Council, Leh to convene a meeting of all the wholesalers and Merchant Association Leh to review the stocking position of all the essential commodities for Leh district. 

Dr. Zaida, ADC Leh was directed to ensure availability of eggs through the Animal Husbandry department. FCS&CA and Legal Metrology Departments were asked to conduct surprise market checking to control black marketing and DRC Leh to provide subsidized commodities as per past practice from cooperative stores including mobile store.

Regarding the availability of Juniper ( Shukpa), CEC directed DFO, Leh to ensure required supply of Shukpa in Leh market as per past practice and also directed him to explore and prepare a project for Shukpa in the district.

To ensure cleanliness in Leh market during Losar festival, Wangyal directed Municipality Department to do their part and directed District Police Leh to ensure law and order including traffic management during the festival. Information Department Leh was directed to provide proper Public Address System on December 27 at Chowkhang Vihara. R&B, MC Leh and Construction Division Leh were asked to remain ready in wake up of a snowfall.
