Free eye surgical camp held in Sankoo 30 % of the operated cases had only 10 to 15 % of vision left in the affected eye

A three-days free eye surgical camp organised by Dr. Manzoor Eye Care Centre Srinagar in collaboration with Baqirya health care and research centre BHC&RC (A Health Wing of IKMT) concluded on July 21 at Community health centre, Sankoo.

During the camp, 75 patients were detected for eye cataract surgeries with Intra Lens, Pterygium excision with auto-graft of 25 patients, Glaucoma screen of 25 patients and 25 for Retina Consultation were recorded.
 
Two complicated and unique cases were also handled including a complete blindness with no perception/ projection of light operated and discharged with normal sight. 30 % of the operated cases had only 10 to 15 % of vision left in the affected eye.
 
The surgeries were carried out by eye specialist from Dr. Manzoor, Eye Care Centre, Srinagar Dr. Khurshid Ahmed, Dr. Sema Mian and Dr. Omar Rashid. The medical teams include Community Health Centre OT Assistant and Ophthalmic Assistant.

Free medicines were also provided to the patients. 

Talking to media, Tashi Choktub from Zanskar said, "The camp is a huge relief to the eye patients of the far-flung areas of the region. I thank BHC & RC and Dr. Manzoor Eye Care centre Srinagar for organizing a highly advanced eye surgical camp in the district.”

The whole camp was supervised by Dr. Munawar Hussain Wazir, Block Medical officer, Sankoo and advisor (BHC&RC).
