Exposure tour for Ladakh sheep and goat rearers flagged off

A group of 30 progressive sheep and goat rearers from various villages of Leh district, accompanied by three departmental officers and officials, was flagged off for an inter-state exposure tour organized by the Sheep Husbandry Department, Leh, under the National Livestock Mission (NLM) Scheme.

The team was flagged off by Sonam Norboo (JKAS), Additional District Development Commissioner, Leh.

The flag-off ceremony was held in the presence of Dr. Mohd Abass, I/C District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Leh; Dr. Tsering Lamchung, Technical Officer to Director, Sheep Husbandry Department, UT Ladakh; Dr. Changchup Dorjey, Technical Officer/Research Assistant, Pashmina Goat Farm, Upshi; block officers, and other departmental officials.

As part of the exposure tour, the team will visit the Central Sheep and Wool Research Institute (CSWRI), Garsa, Himachal Pradesh, and the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Karnal, Haryana.

The programme aims to familiarize participating farmers with modern livestock rearing and management practices, provide hands-on exposure to advanced breeding technologies, feed and fodder production methods, and introduce innovative approaches to enhance income generation.

This initiative is expected to play a key role in the sustainable development of the livestock sector in Ladakh by equipping local rearers with technical knowledge and practical skills to improve productivity, efficiency, and livelihoods.
