District Congress Committee organises protest rally in Leh Criticises BJP for not ensuring basic necessities like water, power and good roads

Highlighting the issues of drinking water shortage, power cuts and incomplete roads in and around Leh town, District Congress Committee organised a protest rally on June 20 at Leh main market.

Hundreds of Congress supporters joined the protest which was carried out from Leh main gate and culminated at the main market.

Slamming the ruling government, Tsering Samphel, District Congress Committee, President said, “People have been facing problems in terms of ration, cylinder, petrol, and diesel and now even drinking water problem arises in Leh. It is the first time in the history of Ladakh that people are facing drinking water problem and is a shame on the ruling government.  The BJP government has failed to execute the project that was brought during the rule of Congress government”.

Rigzin Spalbar, Former CEC, LAHDC, Leh said, “I am really amazed to see that despite having three big pipelines laid during our tenure, how the situation becomes deteriorated.  Earlier, water used to overflow and the pressure couldn’t be controlled. So, it is clear that the present Council is sleeping”.

He further said that the present government has even failed to provide the basic needs of the people whereas during the election they promised for UT status.

“The opposition has given enough time for them to understand and carry out the work but now it’s high time and we are not going to remain silent,” he added.

The leaders of Congress party submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner demanding drinking water supply through PHE Tankers and restoration of supply pipes immediately, due salaries to be paid to the PHE lower staff, smooth undisruptive electricity supply, early completion of blacktopping of the roads by introducing shift system of day and night in the city area.
