DDMA reviews disaster preparedness in Kargil Vikas Kundal calls for prompt, timely measures

To take preventive measures in advance for dealing with the situation arising due to the incessant rainfall in the district over the past few days, a meeting was convened on June 30. 

The meeting was chaired by Vikas Kundal, DC who is also the Chairman District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Kargil.
 
A flood control room has been established at DC Office Kargil with a contact number 01985-232263. Officials from I&FC, R&B, MC, PDD, PHE, Health, FCS&CA have been deputed to maintain vigil round the clock.

Vikas Kundal asked to remain alert by keeping their men and machinery in full readiness to handle any disaster situation.

Taking stock of the availability of essential commodities in the district, he stressed on the authorities of FCS&CA to ensure the availability of sufficient food stock in case of the closure of Zojila pass.

ARTO Kargil was directed to arrange required numbers of buses and taxis at all sub-divisions of the district to ensure emergency transportation facilities if required. 
 
While Chief Medical Officer was asked to constitute Rapid Response Team at the District Hospital keeping the availability of medicines and other medicare facilities in sufficient quantity.

Executive Engineer, PDD informed that 10 transformers with different capacities are available with the department and is also in touch with the NHPC.

Meeting with the Patwaris has already been convened to keep the revenue staff vigilant. He directed Tehsildar to instruct field staff to remain present at their respective destinations to keep the administration well posted about the ground situation.

All the concerned officers were asked to prepare Departmental Action Plans to deal with disaster situations and complete the temporary restoration of roads, buildings, schools within the district in due course of time. 

Also, Assistant Director Information was directed to deal with social media rumour management.
