DC, Leh alerts engineers on rising water level in nallah

Avny Lavasa, Deputy Commissioner, Leh called an emergency meeting on July 9 with the officers and engineers of concerned department and ordered for taking certain preventive measures in view of rising temperature and eventuality of overflow of water in nallas.

She constituted a committee and instructed them to immediately inspect Leh main nalla right from Gangles to Skara and identify vulnerable points and ensure that the water course should not get blocked at any cost.

Lavasa directed the PWD to initiate de-silting of nallah according to the need and also urged to keep the JCBs and gunny bags standby to meet any eventuality. The engineers were directed to keep a close eye on other vulnerable nallah so that timely precautionary action can be taken.

Keeping the shortage of regular manpower in SDRF, Avny Lavasa instructed them to alert all those personnel who were trained through SDRF for disaster management work. She also took stock of availability of equipment with SDRF.

Talking about the water blockage at Tokrey Zampa by the Air Force Authority, it was decided to take up the issue with Air Force to install a flood-gate to avoid such problem.

Moses Kunzang, Additional District Development Commissioner, Leh, Sachin Kumar, ADC, Suresh Chib, ASP, Leh, Sonam Gurmet, Tehsildar, Leh Executive Engineers of various wings of PWD, Executive Officer, Municipal Committee and in charge SDRF were present in the meeting.

District administration Leh appealed the public to abstain from throwing garbage mainly the old clothing into the nallah which may cause blocking of water flow and causes overflow.
