Conservation Leadership Project 'Ek Prithvi' launched in Leh Aims at promoting awareness about environmental issues among children

WWF Conservation Leadership Project “Ek Prithvi” was launched for the school children of Ladakh and conducted two days teachers training workshop for the project on 17 and 18 March at DIET, Leh

Director School Education (DSE), Dr Shah Faesal and Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Prasanna Ramaswamy G jointly launched the project.

The project focuses on capacity building of teachers to facilitate active implementation of environment education in schools.

Director School Education (DSE), Dr Shah Faesal was the chief guest of the occasion and Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Prasanna Ramaswamy G as the guest of honour. Jigmet Takpa (IFS), Project Director, LREDA, CCF Wildlife, Radhika Suri, Director Education, WWF, Principal DIET Leh, Chief Education Officer Leh, Dr Pankaj Chandan, Team Leader, Western Himalayas Landscape of WWF-India and many were present.

Stressing on connecting the students with the nature, Dr Faesal said that there are many stories in our culture which are related to nature and it connects us directly. He added that the students should be made known to such stories which relate to nature and thus, develops the child in connection with nature. He asked the teachers and trainers present on the occasion to come up with publications of such stories as students learn very easily from it.

DC assured all possible support for the proper implementation of this project. A specially designed project publications for the school children and teachers was also released. Jigmet Takpa and Radhika Suri also spoke on the occasion.
