Consensus on better traffic regulation in Leh No vehicles allowed to park on side of the road in Leh town

For better management and regulation of vehicular traffic in and around Leh town a meeting was held on 11 March at Police Conference Hall, Police Post -Housing Colony, Leh.

The meeting was conducted by District Police Leh in collaboration with Municipal Committee Leh under the chairmanship of SSP, Tsering Gyalpo.

Representatives of mainstream political parties, religious heads, taxi unions, merchant association were present in the meeting.
Discussion on various traffic management issues was raised and agreed unanimously to the proposal suggested by the Police and MC Leh.

It was decided that all the taxi drivers will wear specified uniform and nameplate with effect from 15th April. The trucks / tankers coming from the Srinagar shall be stopped at Phyang near LPG plant till 09:00 PM. Taxi union will use their own parking place in Leh town for up to 50 taxis. No taxi will be allowed to park on either side of the road in Leh town. Rest of the taxi will be parked at Housing Colony stadium.

Strict action will be taken against Government employees who are working as a taxi driver.

All vehicles will be parked at specified parking place i.e. Polo-ground & Shakshaling.

For making the foot path of Balkhang area convenient for the general public, foot path vendors on Balkhang chowk will be shifted to the main market near Post Office area.

On the rotation basis only 10 taxies will be allowed to park at Choglamsar Zampa. Suitable parking place have to be identified by the Taxi union Leh for taxies at Choglamsar Zampa.
 
President, Merchant Association, Choglamsar Zampa will liaise up with the concerned to use the parking place in front of Karmapa monastery for parking.

Administrator Municipal Committee Leh agreed to find out suitable private land near forest office, Leh for parking of vehicles of various hotels and travel agents.

All the participants unanimously agreed to cooperate with the District Administration and Police Department to implement the decisions taken with an aim to make better traffic regulation in Leh, Choglamsar & Skalzangling areas for the convenience of general public.
