Conference on Right to Information Act held in Kargil Awareness imperative for effective implementation of RTI Act: State Information Commissioner

To spread awareness and presentation on the implementation of the J&K RTI Act, 2009, RTI Act conference was held on August 6 at Conference Hall, Baroo, Kargil.
Mohammad Ashraf Mir, State Information Commissioner, J&K Right to Information Act interacted with the First Appellate Authorities and Public Information Officers.

Mohammad Ashraf Mir highlighted the need for organising more and more awareness programmes on Right to Information Act. He said that the awareness is imperative for effective implementation of RTI Act. 

Stressing on the importance of organising the conference, he said that all First Appellate Authorities and Public Information Officers must know about the implementation of RTI Act. He asked them to work with utmost dedication and respond the RTI applications within the stipulated time period provided under the Act. 

He informed that every individual has the freedom to seek government-related information through RTI Act. RTI is one of the key legislation which guarantees the right and freedom of every citizen of India to seek the information related to government dealings, both at Centre and the state.

The First Appellate Authorities and Public Information Officers demanded to organise awareness programmes with regard to RTI Act in colleges, Panchayat and other institutions in Kargil. Also, during the awareness camps lectures should be given in local languages so that the maximum people can be benefited with the Act. 

 Vikas Kundal, DC, Kargil also interacted with the audience and thanked the organizers for organising such programmes in the district. He highlighted the importance of RTI in bringing transparency and accountability in Government departments. 

Ashok Kumar Pandita, State Information Commissioner, Tsering Gyalpo, SSP Kargil, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Kargil, Chief Planning Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Education Officer, Assistant Director Information, DSP Headquarter and all the FAAs and PIOs attended the programme.
