Chief Secretary Dr. Kotwal reviews winter stocking preparedness in Ladakh
 
           Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, chaired a comprehensive review meeting on October 30 at the DC Conference Hall, Leh, to assess the preparedness for winter stocking across various departments in view of the approaching winter season.
The meeting focused on ensuring uninterrupted essential supplies and services to residents, particularly in snow-bound and remote areas of Ladakh. Department-wise action plans were discussed in detail, including the availability of essential commodities and emergency response measures during the harsh winter months.
Dr. Kotwal reviewed the stocking status of the Food Corporation of India (FCI), assessing the availability of food grains and the mechanism for advance distribution of rations to consumers in inaccessible areas. He directed officials to ensure timely supply and distribution so that no household faces shortages during peak winter.
The Power Development Department briefed the Chief Secretary on the availability of diesel for operating DG sets, the status of power supply in remote villages, and the readiness of maintenance teams, spare parts, and batteries. Emphasising the importance of uninterrupted electricity, Dr. Kotwal instructed the department to remain fully prepared to address any contingencies.
During the review of the Health Department, Dr. Kotwal assessed the availability of essential medicines, medical supplies, and upcoming procurement plans. He directed the department to expedite the dispatch of medicines and critical equipment to snow-bound regions to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services throughout the winter.
The Chief Secretary also reviewed the status of petroleum supplies with oil companies, including IOCL and the Leh Bottling Plant, focusing on winter stocking of petroleum products, LPG cylinders, and storage capacities to meet seasonal demand.
The Animal, Sheep Husbandry & Fisheries Department apprised the Chief Secretary of the stocking position of cattle feed, poultry feed, fish feed, and egg supplies. Dr. Kotwal stressed ensuring adequate livestock nutrition to safeguard animal health during the cold months.
The Forest Department presented details regarding the availability and procurement of firewood, while the Cooperative and Agriculture Departments discussed strategies for sustainable vegetable availability and measures to stabilise market prices during winter.
Dr. Kotwal directed all departments to finalise their contingency plans, complete winter stocking on a priority basis, and maintain close inter-departmental coordination to ensure the smooth delivery of essential services throughout the season.
The meeting was attended by Bhupesh Chaudhary, Administrative Secretary, Cooperative Department; Rahul Sharma, Administrative Secretary, Power Development Department; Romil Singh Donk, Deputy Commissioner, Leh; Ghulam Mohd, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Leh; and senior officers from various departments.
