Avny Lavasa reviews study and research programme on health Dr. Tsering Norbu seeks financial provision for conducting comprehensive health studies in Ladakh

Avny Lavasa, DC also the Chairperson of District Ethical Committee and PC&PNDT Advisory Committee reviewed the state of progress of study cum research programs mainly related to acute mountain sickness (AMS), high altitude cerebral edema (HACE) and high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE) on May 21 in Leh.

Dr. Motup Dorjey, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Tsering Samphel, Medical Superintendent, SNM Hospital, Dr. Tsering Norbu, Senior Physician and senior doctors attended the meeting. 

Dr. Tashi Thinles, Senior Consultant gave a presentation on the evaluation of the genetic basis of HAPE and high altitude adaption investigators. Dr. Padma Diskit, Surgeon spoke on Hypoxia Tolerance and Hemoglobin variants in HAPE susceptible and different ethnic groups. 

Dr. Tashi Motup, Surgeon informed that the proposed medical education program for doctors is scheduled to be held in the month of July in Leh. Doctors from various cities of Northern India and local doctors will be participating in the program.

Looking at the necessity of study and research work on some specific mountain sickness which is usually witnesses in this region, DC stressed on the need to work out on a practical mechanism that would bring pace in the research and find the excellent result so that both the locals as well as other visiting outsiders would benefit immensely.

Dr. Tsering Norbu, Senior Physician suggested Advisory Committee to have financial provision for conducting comprehensive health studies in Ladakh for the health security of the people in Ladakh.
