In a historic milestone, the first-ever Passing Out Parade of Ladakh Police was held at the Police Training Centre (PTC), Stong-Sar on October 25, marking a new chapter in the Union Territory’s law enforcement history. A total of 453 recruits, including 209 women constables, officially joined the force.

Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, inspected the parade and took the salute of the marching contingents. He also felicitated the All-Round Best Recruit Constables — R/Ct Sonam Yangchan (All-Round Best & Indoor Best), R/Ct Jigmet Palkit (Outdoor Best), and R/Ct Mohd Sharif (Best Marksman).

Addressing the gathering, the Lt Governor said that the day symbolizes the growing strength, discipline, and self-reliance of the Ladakh Police. He acknowledged that since the formation of the Union Territory, the Ladakh Police has faced multiple challenges — from modernizing basic infrastructure to creating a self-sufficient training ecosystem and ensuring security in strategically significant areas. “It was through these challenges that the resilience and determination of Ladakh Police were forged,” he remarked.

Highlighting the administration’s commitment to building a robust police force, the Lt Governor said the UT Government has undertaken major initiatives for modernization, infrastructure development, housing, welfare, digital transformation, and advanced training. He added that police visibility and assistance have been enhanced in key tourist areas, with special focus on women’s participation, communication systems, and the well-being of police personnel and their families.

Speaking about the establishment of the Police Training Centre, Stong-Sar, which began in 2022, he said it marks a “new era of training self-reliance for Ladakh.” The institution, he noted, will not only train new police personnel to meet Ladakh’s unique challenges but also serve as a training hub for other UT departments in the future.

Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to youth empowerment, the Lt Governor announced that recruitment for Sub-Inspectors will begin soon to further strengthen the force. He said the successful completion of training by 453 recruits, including 209 women, reflects the government’s efforts to create meaningful employment opportunities for Ladakhi youth.

Congratulating the new constables, the Lt Governor urged them to uphold the values of trust, integrity, and sacrifice that their uniform represents.

“Law enforcement is not just about authority — it is about compassion, service, and earning the confidence of the people you protect,” he said.

Calling the induction of over 200 women constables a “powerful symbol of gender equality,” Kavinder Gupta said their inclusion will make Ladakh Police more inclusive, empathetic, and effective.

He also paid homage to the brave personnel of Ladakh Police who laid down their lives in the line of duty, stating that their courage will continue to inspire future generations.

In his concluding remarks, the Lt Governor said that Ladakh will play a key role in realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a Vishwaguru, as remarkable progress continues across every sector of the nation.

The Lt Governor extended heartfelt congratulations to all passing-out constables and their families, expressing confidence that they will continue to bring pride to Ladakh Police and the Union Territory of Ladakh.

Earlier, Dr. S.D. Singh Jamwal, DGP, Ladakh, in his address, recalled that training and passing out parades for new Ladakh Police personnel were earlier conducted in Jammu & Kashmir. He expressed happiness that the first-ever Passing Out Parade of Ladakh Police constables was held at Stong-Sar, one of the highest police training centres in the country. He also shared plans to develop a Winter Sports Centre at the facility to promote youth engagement and enhance sporting skills.
