18,627 kids immunised in second phase of pulse polio immunisation

The second phase of Pulse Polio campaign was successfully conducted in Drass as well as in the whole district and reports of the successful conduct of this campaign has been received from Sub Division Zanskar, Sankoo, Shargole, and Shakar Chiktan.

In Kargil, the campaign was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner Kargil Kacho Hassan Khan, by immunizing a newborn infant at district hospital Kargil and in Drass, the Campaign was inaugurated by Dr Sikandar Khan BMO Drass and SHO Drass.

Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhone CMO Kargil told that a total of 18,627 kids was immunized at 382 Polio booths all over Kargil and 1540 Paramedical staffs, Asha Workers, and Angarwari workers were engaged and 78 supervisors to monitor the successful implementation of the Campaign.

Kargil has not reported any fresh case of this disease for last 26 years. Polio vaccines for the snow bound areas of Zanskar and Drass have been dispatched already before the closure of the roads and has installed three mobile booths and ten transit booths at various important places like busstand and other places.

Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Kacho Hassan Khan congratulated the officials of the medical department led by Dr Jaffer Akhone and all related departments for the eradication of Polio from Kargil.

On this occasion others present includes Dr Ibrahim Khan Dy CMO Kargil, Dr Afzal Superintendent district Hospital Kargil, other doctors, district officers and media persons.
