1 killed, few injured as hotel roof collapses due to wind

A 13-year-old child lost her life and few left with minor injuries when the roof of a hostel aluminum glaze collapsed due to strong wind on September 13 at Lamdon School, Shey.

The incident happened when the cemented blocks fixed over the corrugated galvanised iron or steel (C.G.I) sheet of the building to hold solar panel fell over aluminum glaze attached with the one storey main hostel building. 

A teacher said, “It was around 5-6 in the evening, the children were studying inside the aluminum glaze. The weather was windy and all of a sudden the cemented blocks of the solar panel fall." 

The solar panel project was sponsored by LEHO and the project was carried out by Ladakh Solar Energy.

Sargun Shukla, SSP Leh said that the case is under investigation.

Yet in another case, a child was electrocuted to death at Rigjung Public School hostel on September 25 in Choglamsar.
