Leh :
Ladakh Connectivity Campaign was held at the newly established Ladakh Youth Centre in Leh on 28 May. Roughly 100 youth attended and wrote letters to the new Prime Minister Narendra Modi, regarding Ladakh’s connectivity.

The youth wrote letters to the Prime Minister stating some genuine problems of the Ladakhis and asking for solutions entitling ‘We wonder if India cares about Ladakh’?
In their letter the youth have mentioned some points about connectivity to the mainland and the world through affordable air travel, world class digital network and a powerful radio network.

They wrote that Ladakh is geographically remote and located in physically tough terrain with steep mountains and harsh climate where winter temperatures touch minus 35 degree Celsius and the region remains cut off for six months every year. On top of this harshness of nature Ladakhis feel neglected by the nation as well.

The youth stated that Ladakh is remote for roads and railways but there is no reason to keep Ladakhis digitally remote and demanded providing broadband facilities in each and every region of Ladakh, right up to the last village and last citizen. In the letter the youth also talked about the sky touching air fare. Air-fare for Delhi- Beijing and Delhi - London costs only Rs. 18,000 while Delhi- Leh flights cost Rs. 27,000 during winters. Ladakhis are continuously being exploited by the air companies and taking benefit of the situation and also requested effective media in local language.
