Vegetable-cum-Fruit exhibition held in Leh

Annual Vegetable-cum-Fruits Exhibition took place at Indoor Stadium Leh on 10th September. It was organised by Dept. of Agriculture and Horticulture LAHDC, Leh.
 
Sunil Sharma, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Leh inaugurated the event. A large number of farmers participated exhibiting their vegetables, fruits, flowers and other products like jam, oils and pulp-juice.

SKUAST-K had model exhibits of greenhouses, shed house, apricot dryer and a model of drip irrigation system which lays emphasis on precision farming for good cultivation.
 
Tsewang Phunstok, Chief  Horticulture officer Leh said that people from Leh district participate in this exhibition every year. Even food processed items are exhibited and we have more than 14 small scale entrepreneurs who exhibit their products. He said that more educated people should be involved in making a business of food products.  

Sonam Angchuk, District Agricultural officer said that they are trying to inform the farmers of Ladakh how to use the quality seeds and hybrid seeds for good production.  He also stressed on the involvement of modern agricultural scientific techniques to be used along with age-old techniques that will help yield better produce which in turn will help increase their source of income.
  
Yangchen Dolma, a local from Saboo said that this exhibition has given the farmers an opportunity to display their cultivated products and she feels happy to be a part of it. 

Towards the end of the day, prizes were also distributed to the winners of the exhibition in different categories. Documentary films on agricultural practices were also shown during the exhibition.
