The Ladakh Carnival veil opens up with grand celebration

Ladakh Festival opened up with pomp and gaiety in Leh on 20th September. The aim of celebrating this week-long event is to promote and stretch the tourist season in Ladakh.  Commissioner Secretary of Tourism Department, J&K- Farooq Ahmad Shah inaugurated the grand celebration. Deputy Commissioner, Prasanna Ramaswamy G and many other guests were present during the occasion. 
 
The processions of different cultural troupes of Ladakh, school students with different attire and jewellery were carried around the main market to Polo ground with music, dance and showcasing the rich culture and traditions. 
 
Farooq Ahmad Shah the Chief Guest welcomed all the crowds gathered in the mega cultural show. He said, that Ladakh Festival was initially aimed to extend the tourist season in Ladakh but now it aimed at increasing the number of tourist. He urged the local people to maintain and preserve the cultural spirit.  
Terming the J&K State as the crown of the incredible India, he said, that the three regions of the State, Jammu -the place of pilgrimage, Kashmir -the paradise and Ladakh -The land of endless discovery has multi-diverse culture , tradition and heritage.  He further added that the State Govt. is very keen to develop the Ladakh region looking at the increasing tourism sector. He assured that the govt. will stand for all kind.
 
Multi-Cultural programs were carried out by the artist of different groups.
 
The Deputy Commissioner, Prasanna Ramaswamy.G in his welcome speech said that Ladakh festival proves to be the means of cultural exchange with the other different parts of the world. He said that the tourism plays an important role in the socio-economic development of Ladakh. 
The vibrant rich culture, exotic places has lead to the tremendous increase of tourist in the region during the past few years. 
 
The day was called off with the Ladakhi folk dance by the chief guest and other guest with the large number of tourist along with the cultural artist. Dr. Zahida Bano Chief Executive Officer - Development Authority, Leh gave the vote of thanks.
