Rig-Lam School celebrates its Annual Day

Rig-Lam school celebrated the annual day on 7th November at their school in Choglamsar. The Chief Guest of the occasion was Rinchen Angmo-Deputy Commandant CRPF Leh. The annual celebration began with the lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest followed by a prayer song. 
 
The welcome speech was given by Rig-Lam School Chairman P.T Kunzang who mentioned that by next year they will open a new hostel of the school. This was followed by an entertaining cultural performance by the students.
 
Rigzin Angmo congratulated the school for its annual parent day celebration. She said that the children must be groomed in such a way that they give the best performance in every activity that they are fond of, be it co-curricular or academics. She reminisced her school days and said that failures during student years must be analysed and the weaknesses must be worked on. She inspired the children by telling that though she has seen a lot of failure in life, but her consistent hard work made her win five national gold medals in athletics. 
 
Tsewang Thinles, LBA President emphasised that for a child to develop well in every aspect the parents must keep a vigil on them. He requested the parents that even if their child has been sponsored it is the responsibility of the respective parents to see that the child partakes in the academic and co-curricular activities actively.  
 
Rinchen Namgyal LBA Youth Wing President, spoke about the improvements that LBA Youth Wing has been doing in maintaining the school since the year it was handed over to them. He listed out a few things that three new classes have been built and have been planning to improve the school field, opening new hostel by next year, making computer class available, provide school bus, training of teachers in school with help of DIET, increase the pay scale of teachers and also make free books available in the school. 
 
Principal, Tsering Motup during the event gave a detail report of the school, its academic and co-curricular activities and achievements. He mentioned that last year the 8th class students gave a good academic performance all the students passed the exam and the first three position was bagged by their school. He also added that last year district volleyball and handball (boys) tournament was won by their school. The pass percent of the 8th class students is around 77%. He also requested the parents to give their feedback, opinion on improving the school.
 
Students were also given awards for their good performance in academics and co-curricular activities during the function. This was followed by a vote of thanks by LBA Youth Wing Vice-President Konchok Eshay.
 
The school is one of the oldest private schools in Leh. Its management was handed over to LBA Youth Wing in 2010. Most of the students studying here are from far flung areas of Ladakh and belong to the less fortunate section of the society. The school runs with fees of nominal charges.
 
Others guests present were Councilor Phunstok Dorjey, New Millennium School Director Gen. Angchok, LBA Woman Wing President Tsewang Dolma and the parents of students.
