‘Khimsa’, a trash art event held in Leh market

With an aim to reduce and recycle the trash with the growing pollution in Ladakh, a trash art event was organised by a group of NGO’s on World Environment day on June 5 at the main market, Leh.

Tashi Morup, Coordinator LAMO said, “With the help of many NGOs and MC, Leh we came up with an initiative to spread awareness about the ill effects of garbage in Leh. The trash art event will be continued till June 30 with various programmes in different venues. We will organise conferences, cleanliness programme, exhibition, talks etc.”

Thinles Dolkar, a student said, “We recycled the trash and made a musical band in which the whole instrument is made up of trash. It is the need of an hour to reduce and reuse the waste in order to have a clean environment.”

The exhibition of reused trash and local cuisine were also present in the main market.  A musical concert by J&K police band and a theatrical performance by the student gathered the spectators.
