Theater art session held for students in Leh

With an aim to inculcate the value of 'Theater Art' among the students, a 10-day long theater workshop was organized by Ladakh Theater Organization from March 15 to 24 at Lotsava Auditorium, Cultural Academy Leh. 

The workshop was initiated to develop and practice basic life skills and to impart quality theater education among children.

Moses Kunzang, ADC Chief Guest appreciated LTO for providing theater education and seeding the spirit among participants to aware and stands against social issues. He said that the theater can be used as a strong medium to educate people about social issues and practices.  

Morup Namgyal, Padmashree awardee said that the development of the region as a whole depends largely on the attitudes and behavior of the people. "A place is known by its people dwelling in and it becomes very important to have moral education, good behavior, and attitude. The aspirations and needs of the theater are important in the contemporary world to bring societal transformation".

He further added that the battle against the evil social practices like polygamy and control over property by the elder son prevalent in our society are fought by a medium of songs.

Sonam Wangchuk, Director SECMOL said that theaters are performed to preserve and enrich the cultural heritage of region as well as to disseminate important message through this medium.

The workshop will impart education on street play, skits, folk songs and dances on gender sensitization and other social evils. 

The program concluded with vote of thanks by Tundup Dorje, Vice President Ladakh Theatre Organisation.
