Ladakh Theatre organization (LTO) celebrates World Theatre Day

 Ladakh Theatre organization (LTO) in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages celebrated World Theatre day on 27th March, 2014 at Sindhu Sanskrit Kendra Leh.

Ishey Tundup, Principal Lamdon Model senior secondary school Leh was the chief guest on the occasion. Others who attended the function were Kunzes Dolma, District Education planning Officer Leh, government officials, teachers and students from various schools of Leh.

The function began with the lighting of the lamp by the chief guest and a welcome speech by Tsewang Paljor, special officer for culture-GI, cultural Academy Leh.

Addressing the gathering, Tsewang Paljor emphasized the need to include theatre education as part of school curriculum and to foster creativity and innovation in children.

Two short plays titled ‘Hor-yul’ and ‘Ek Disha Aur’, directed by noted dramatist and Sangeet Natak Academy Awardee and LTO Director, Mipham Otsal were staged on the occasion.

Kunzes Dolma, District Education planning officer Leh thanked both LTO and J&K academy of Art, Culture and Languages for organizing theatre workshop for children and providing opportunity to showcase their talent. She assured full support from education department in organizing such theatre workshops.

Ishey Tundup, chief guest of the occasion said that children are the future of our nation and to encourage participation in such activities are important. “Theatre is a part of learning which builds self-esteem and confidence in children,’’ he said.

He said that understanding the importance of creativity in education, CBSE has issued directions to all the schools to include theatre in school curriculum.

Sonam Angchuk, Vice-president of Ladakh Theatre organization presented the vote of thanks.
